The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Just before Earth is demolished by an alien construction crew, an ordinary man is rescued from the planet by a friend who has been researching a guide to interstellar travel. Their escape launches them into a strange, comic journey across space filled with unfamiliar worlds, eccentric beings, and bewildering discoveries.

My take

You may enjoy this if you want a colorful, offbeat space comedy with eccentric characters, but Not for you if you expect the books’ sharper wit, richer characterizations, or the focused absurdity of Galaxy Quest.
