Project Hail Mary

A science teacher wakes aboard a spaceship light-years from Earth with no memory of his identity or mission. As his memories return, he learns that a mysterious substance is threatening the Sun and must use his scientific knowledge, ingenuity, and unconventional ideas to help prevent a global catastrophe.

My take

You’ll enjoy this if you like accessible, humorous science fiction with high stakes and an unlikely partnership, especially The Martian; Not for you if you want darker, more rigorous, or consistently tense space drama.
