Stargate

A linguist and a military team activate an ancient device found in Egypt and travel to a distant planet. There, they encounter a human society modeled on ancient Egypt and must navigate an oppressive ruler, unfamiliar customs, and the challenge of finding a way home.

My take

You’ll enjoy this pulpy 1990s adventure if you like Egyptian mythology mixed with space travel, action, and spectacle; Not for you if you want modern effects or deeply developed characters.
