Great Expectations

An orphaned boy encounters an escaped convict and later visits a wealthy, eccentric woman who introduces him to her beautiful but cruel ward. When a lawyer announces that an unknown benefactor will fund his transformation into a gentleman, his life changes dramatically as he faces ambition, love, and difficult choices.

My take

You’ll enjoy this if you like atmospheric period dramas, Gothic characters, and classic literary adaptations such as Oliver Twist; Not for you if you prefer faster pacing, modern sensibilities, or complete faithfulness to the novel.
