Flowers in the Attic

After her husband dies, a mother brings her kids to live with their grandparents in a huge, deteriorating mansion. But the children are hidden away in a room connected to the attic, cared for in ways that grow increasingly uncertain as the mother focuses on winning back an inheritance from her dying father.

My take

You’ll likely enjoy this disturbing gothic tale of secrecy and isolation if you’re drawn to dark family dramas like The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer or American Gothic; Not for you if you want a lighter, happier adaptation.
