Raised in a Maine orphanage during World War II, a young man is taught medicine by the compassionate doctor who oversees the institution. Longing to choose his own path, he leaves with a couple bound for an apple orchard, where new experiences force him to reconsider love, responsibility, morality, and the future others have imagined for him.

My take

You’ll like this if you enjoy heartfelt coming-of-age dramas with moral dilemmas, strong performances, and a gentle period atmosphere, especially films like What’s Eating Gilbert Grape; Not for you if you prefer brisk, understated storytelling.
