Requiem for a Dream

Four Coney Island residents chase hopes of a better life as addiction takes hold in different ways. A young man and his friends pursue a future tied to drugs, while his lonely mother becomes fixated on appearing on television and turns to pills in an effort to fit her favorite dress.

My take

You may appreciate this if you value intense, emotionally affecting dramas about addiction and its consequences; not for you if you want an uplifting story or find bleak, disturbing material difficult to watch.
