The Gambler

A literature professor secretly pursues increasingly dangerous gambling bets, borrowing from criminals and putting his own life at risk. As debts mount and a complicated relationship develops with a student, he must confront his destructive choices and seek a way forward.

My take

You may enjoy this dark, character-driven gambling drama for its tense debts, sharp dialogue, and strong performances; Not for you if you need likable heroes, consistent realism, or constant gambling action.
