Stanley Banks, a middle-class family man, is still recovering from the shock of his daughter's wedding when he learns that she is pregnant. He is not sure he is ready to be a grandfather, but he tries to be supportive of them. As the baby's birth approaches, he becomes increasingly anxious, he worries about how his relationship will be, and he is not sure how to bond with his unborn grandchild. He will navigate all the emotions of welcoming a new member to the family.
