After his parents’ divorce, a shy young boy moves into a new neighborhood with his mother and befriends their gruff, hard-drinking war-veteran neighbor. When the neighbor becomes an unlikely babysitter, their everyday adventures gradually develop into an unexpected bond that challenges both of them.

My take

You’ll likely enjoy this warm, character-driven comedy if you like heartfelt unlikely friendships such as The Peanut Butter Falcon, but it’s Not for you if predictable feel-good stories and sentimentality wear you out.
