Short Circuit

After a lightning strike gives a military robot unexpected awareness, it escapes a laboratory and tries to understand life beyond its programming. Its designer pursues it while the military closes in, and an animal-loving woman shelters the machine, mistaking it for an extraterrestrial visitor.

My take

You’ll enjoy this if you like sweet, goofy family sci-fi with an outsider-at-heart and plenty of chase-driven humor; Not for you if you want subtle comedy, complex characters, or modern pacing.
