Man on Fire

A traumatized former intelligence agent accepts a bodyguard job protecting a wealthy family's twelve-year-old daughter in Italy. As the guarded protector and the spirited child gradually form a meaningful bond, a kidnapping forces him to confront his violent past and pursue those responsible.

My take

You may enjoy this if you prefer moody, character-focused revenge thrillers with bursts of harsh violence; Not for you if you want relentless action or the emotional intensity of the 2004 remake.
