Chinatown

In prewar Los Angeles, a private detective takes a case involving a husband suspected of infidelity. What begins as routine work draws him into a dangerous tangle of deception, murder, and public corruption, as he follows clues through a city where powerful interests and personal secrets collide.

My take

You’ll enjoy this if you like layered detective mysteries, morally murky characters, and a slow-building sense of danger; Not for you if you prefer brisk pacing or lighthearted stories.
